The number five is the most symbolic, powerful number in Huichol culture: The world was created in 5 days; the world has 5 regions, corresponding to 5 cardinal points, each considered a sacred place; their rituals and ceremonies have 5 stages; their gods must do everything 5 times; there are 5 male deer and 5 female deer deities, as well as 5 eagle gods, 5 colors of corn, and 5 levels to descend to the underworld when they die. Therefore, there are 5 strands in this design.
